A lot of women experience hair loss and have no idea what caused it. There are many medical conditions that can bring on hair loss.
The most common are:
-Auto immune disease
-Skin conditions such as psoriasis & seborrheic dermatitis
Other reasons for hair loss include:
-Physical trauma surgery or intense illness
-Dramatic weight loss over a short period of time
-Taking too much Vitamin-A
Alopecia is the technical term for hair loss. Research shows that one out of three will suffer from Alopecia.
CLOGGED / UNHEALTHY
The different types of Alopecia are:
Alopecia Universalis - complete loss of all hair on the body
Alopecia Totalis - complete loss of all scalp hair
Alopecia Areata - causes hair loss in small, disk shaped patches. This can occur anywhere on the body. 20% of those affected by Alopecia Areata have a family history of it.
Traction Alopecia - self inflicted; caused by the tugging of the hair ex. braids. Chemotherapy treatments from cancer also cause hair loss. This hair loss is usually temporary and will grow back once treatment ends. The color and texture of the hair when it grows back can be different than what it was originally. The thickness of the hair can also change.
Lupus itself can cause hair loss, as the immune system destroys the hair follicle. The medicines used to treat lupus such as prednisone & immune system suppressants are contributing factors for thinning hair & hair loss altogether. Some hair loss in lupus patients is caused by scarring associated with discoid scalp lesions.
